Tanah Lot is one of the most popular places to visit in Bali and the whole area can be very busy, especially in the late afternoons and before sunset. The area between the car park and the beach adjacent to the temple is a maze of souvenir shops selling just about every Balinese trinket imaginable. Once visitors have fought their way through the souvenir vendors to the beach, they will see the magnificent temple perched on a rock just a few meters offshore.

Pura Besakih

Also known as the ‘mother temple’ of Bali, Besakih Temple can be found an impressive 1000 metres high, along the side of Mount Agung, Bali’s highest volcano mountain. The temple complex is actually made up of 23 temples waiting to be explored – though the most iconic is certainly Pura Penataran Agung with its six-terraced levels.

  • Opening times: 8 am — 5 pm
  • Best time to visit: The Besakih Temple complex’s main temple holds a festival once every 210 days. This wonderful spectacle shouldn’t be missed, and will next take place on 20 March, 2019.
  • Tip: Make sure to dress modestly as revealing attire is prohibited inside Indonesian temples.

Bali Safari & Marine Park

One of the most popular theme parks in Bali, it is home to more than 100 species of animals which hail from countries like India, Indonesia and more. Situated in Gianyar, it has endangered species like white tigers, Komodo dragons and orangutans. You will get the opportunity of getting close to their amazing animals through the jeep safaris and the animals rides offered over there. This is a great place to visit with friends and family alike.

  • Opening times: Open daily, 9 am — 9 pm
  • Best time to visit: Year round, but visit in the spring for some baby animals!
  • Tips: The park has numerous shows and parades, so make sure to check up on the park’s schedule for the day.

Located at the southern tip of Bukit in Bali, Uluwatu attracts lots of surfers of varying experience levels from all over the world. The word Uluwatu is formed of two words- ‘Ulu’ which means ‘land’s end’ and ‘watu’ that means rock. This is because its waves are made up of five world-class surf breaks. If you love surfing then bring your board and test your skills but if you would much rather relax then there are plenty of hotels and restaurants there which give a beautiful view of the ocean in all its glory. When here, make sure to check out the Pura Luru Uluwatu temple of this region. The clear blue waters of the place are perfect for a getaway.

 Goa Gajah, or ‘Elephant Cave’, is a former sanctuary that dates all the way back to the 9th century. To visit the cave, you must enter through the mouth of a demon that has been carved into the facade. Inside, you’ll find fragments of Hindu statues, including Ganesha, a god with an elephant head that gives the cave its name. Outside, you’ll also be able to see some ancient bathing pools.

  • Opening times: Open daily, 8am — 4pm
  • Best time to visit: Visit early in the morning, before 10am, to avoid the buses full of tourists
  • Tip: Similar to the Besakih temple, make sure to dress modestly. The temple also provides sarongs for hire.

Waterbom Bali

It is called Asia’s best waterpark and located in the South Kuta, this place offers a thrilling day to its visitors. Bring your family and friends to this island which has numerous rides which will suit everyone. There’s the Lazy River Ride for those wanting to take the day slow and relax a little, there’s also the Boomerang ride which is just full of adrenaline pumping 20-metre tall fall of thrill. The rides range from mild to extreme and this actually aids in making the park more versatile. The park is clean and green, apart from decorated in a specific way which just gives enough shade to protect visitors from the burning sun above. There lost of dining options here as well and apart from this, there are some really affordable Javanese massages along with a fish foot spa inside the park which would delight anyone.
